Healdsburg: Late Summer Skinny

The Russian River just east of Healdsburg; incipient autumn is making herself apparent….more mist, fog, cooler nights and mornings, leaves turning, cold water, an end to the sweet ease of summer days.

As summer draws to a close along Wine Road, figured I would give you a brief compilation of what has caught my eye as particularly cool or unique or incipiently so as I roam about the ‘burg.  In no particular order:

The Taverna Sofia is getting close to opening, late October, in the former space occupied by Bovolo at Copperfield’s Books on the Downtown Healdsburg Plaza.   I love the trompe l’oeil  mural depicting a right smashing view of  Santorini’s Oia- looks like baked goods and Mediterranean classics, al fresco and also inside.

Actual Oia.

Fooled your eye….Healdsburg.

This is the patio to the south.

Matheson Street front entrance.

Inside Copperfield’s- under wraps.

Over on Mill Street, I have heard rumblings of a new place called The Parish Cafe, New Orleans and Cajun styled food.  Under construction remodel, mysterious….

Our very own Hotel Healdsburg has their very own Italian/wood-fired pizzeria just about ready to open: Pizzando, on the corner of Healdsburg Avenue and Matheson Street.

Same cool vibe as the mother, HH1….

Bravas Bar de Tapas is nearing their opening….

Bravas, remodeling space that was Ravenous….front and center on Center Street.

Speaking of Center Street:

Center at North in Healdsburg….

On the site of the old post office, burned to the ground in 2010, Seghesio Winery is about to launch in 2014 their Healdsburg Meat Company, which will also feature their wines, and all sorts of other cool stuff.

Artistic rendering (taken from Healdsburg Patch service.)

The site today….

The Shed looks mighty cool over on North Street….lots of press and buzz.

Artistic dream.

Today.

Foss Creek side of The Shed….

Immediate neighbor to the west is the Hank & Maggie Wetzel Native Plant Garden; totally cool.

Figs are native! Plenty of fig leaves to go around!  Thank goodness for Statue Decency….

Looking mighty familiar, natives like I.

I see these all over!

Sashaying over to the former Shimo space on Healdsburg Avenue, Kendall-Jackson plans to open an amazing foodie/wine/Sonoma County venue.

Campo Fina, sister to SCOPA is thriving!  And so very Italian.

Over on Matheson Street, just west of Healdsburg Avenue, The Wurst is a new favorite, featuring sausages, hots, hamburgers, suds and today, Zichichi and Dry Creek Vineyards wines.

Zichichi and Dry Creek Vineyards….

This next gig is my absolute favorite thing- not brand-new, but a Healdsburg Local’s Secret.  We have the Raven Film Center with Hollywood & Wine where a glass of wine, a comfy seat in a magical theatre and popcorn can be yours!   They even food/wine pair! This is my absolute go-to favorite!  An oasis of choice, first run films, my favorite wines by the glass and theatre popcorn- absolute heaven….

Here’s looking at you, kids.

Loved this post – answers so many questions about the new restaurants about to open, or newly opened. Always something happening in the “burg”, its hard to keep up. Thanks!
